Gaas & shirting for spine reinforcement
Our Gaas, also known as bookbinding gauze, mull, or scrim, is an open-weave cotton fabric used for strengthening and fixing book spines. It is available in two open variants, both of which are also offered with paper backing.
Shirting is a treated, dense, and flexible cotton fabric used to reinforce and protect books. It binds the cover to the endpapers, strengthens the spine, and prevents the pages from detaching from the book block.
Both Gaas and Shirting provide high folding endurance and tensile strength, making them ideal not only for spine reinforcement but also as hinge materials for large sample books.
We provide six types of spine reinforcement materials to suit diverse needs:
- Beta & Beta Lined
Lined is FSC certified and backed with 100% recycled acid-free paper - Ypsilon & Ypsilon Lined
Lined is FSC certified and backed with 100% recycled acid-free paper - Shirting 700 (white)
- Shirting 708 (black)
Each material is crafted for maximum durability, ensuring books retain stability and longevity.
